Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT)

Individuals seeking to obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL) for the first time must complete Entry-level Driver Training (ELDT). There are three components of ELDT:

  • Theory Instruction

  • Behind-the-wheel (BTW) Range

  • Behind-the-wheel (BTW) Public Road

These components can be completed all at once or separately. Students must earn a minimum overall score of 80 percent on the theory assessment(s). Trainees must demonstrate proficiency in all elements of the BTW range curriculum for the trainee to successfully complete this module.

Upon completion of one or all components, trainees receive a certificate of completion and their training data is submitted to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's Training Provider Registry (TPR).
